Because most risk doesn’t live in the meeting invite
Some of the hardest moments to navigate on a trip don’t happen in formal meetings – they happen in bars, restaurants, taxis, offices after hours and in the grey areas between “social” and “work”. This pack turns those realities into short, practical lessons so travellers know what to look for, how to respond and where to go for support.
Who it’s for
- Business travellers spending time in hotel bars, restaurants, taxis and off‑site meetings.
- People in smaller organisations, NGOs and universities who don’t have a big HR or security team behind them, but still carry a duty of care.
- Travellers from groups who experience disproportionate harassment or discrimination (including women and LGBTQIA+ travellers), and the colleagues who want to support them.
What’s inside – 8 focused modules
Each micro‑learning is around 2–4 minutes, concentrating on one real‑world situation at a time:
Bar and Restaurant Safety : Practical steps for staying safer in bars and restaurants – from choosing where to sit, to looking after drinks, payments and personal items, and deciding when to leave.
Cultural Sensitivity: How to read and respect local norms in social and meeting settings, reduce friction and avoid unintentionally putting yourself or others at risk through misunderstandings.
Gender‑Based Violence :An introduction to how gender‑based violence shows up in travel and work contexts, what warning signs to watch for, and why seemingly “minor” behaviours matter.
LGBTQIA+ Travellers: Focused guidance on navigating socials, meetings and informal spaces as an LGBTQIA+ traveller, with attention to laws, culture, disclosure and allyship – especially relevant during Pride and beyond.
Meeting Safety: How to prepare for and run safer meetings – from room layout and who is in the room, to managing 1:1s, off‑site venues and “coffee catch‑ups” that don’t feel quite right.
Sexual Harassment: Clear examples of what harassment can look like on the road, simple scripts for responding in the moment, and options for recording and reporting behaviour, including when the issue involves a client or senior colleague.
Sexual Violence: What to do if you or someone you’re supporting experiences sexual violence while travelling: immediate safety, preserving options, and where to seek support locally and from home‑country services.
Working Late: Managing risk when work runs into evenings and nights – from staying behind in offices, co‑working spaces or hotel business centres, to travelling back to accommodation after hours.
Each module is designed so that learners can watch, reflect and apply quickly – in the time it takes to grab a coffee – and revisit before specific trips or meetings.
Why it matters
- Harassment, coercion and boundary‑crossing behaviour are widespread in work and travel settings, and they rarely look like a single dramatic incident at first.
- Smaller organisations and universities often lack clear, accessible training and routes for escalation, leaving travellers to manage situations alone.
- LGBTQIA+ travellers and women frequently report adjusting their behaviour to stay safe, especially around nightlife, taxis and mixed‑power settings.
This pack is designed to:
- Give travellers language, options and scenarios, not just “trust your gut”.
- Provide small organisations with a ready‑to‑use training tool they can stand behind.
- Build a shared, practical understanding of what support looks like when something isn’t right.
